I'm a chemist and worked as a plastics manufacturing engineer. Kerosene or any petro solvent will degrease, but will leave a residue. Go buy some methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) at a hardware store. It is THE degreaser of choice, and evaporates completely. Just wet an old towel a little and rub. One caveat - it is WAY flammable, so do not just throw your used rags in the trash.
