Bicycle Frame Question?

I have my dads 20 inch frame mountain bike but its too big for me. I have a 17inch frame mountain bike but it doesnt work. I was wondering if i could use the parts from the 20 inch mounatin bike to the 17 inch one.

Possibly. Can't say for certain via the Internet. But most simple parts like shifters and brake handles can be swapped around. Other parts would need to be visually inspected to tell for sure. There's just no real way to tell over the net. Suggest

best parts for my marin bear valley se?

Hi. I am doing up a marin bear valley se and am wondering what the best brakes and derailer set would be for it. Will any size fit any mountain bike. I measured my fram from the top of the saddle bit to middle of pedal bit and it says 20 inches.

also for brakes and drivetrain the seatpost length will tell you nothing.

Have the local bike store tell you what's possible.
